WorkCentral was built by Brent Fitzpatrick, a CTO and CIO with 15+ years of experience building technology for startups — who always had freelance clients on the side. For years, he ran his freelance business across five disconnected tools: Proposify for quotes, Toggl for time tracking, Asana for project management, FreshBooks for invoicing, and a spreadsheet to tie it all together.
Every time a client accepted a quote, he'd manually recreate the project in another tool. Every invoice meant exporting time entries and retyping them. Every payment required a manual follow-up. He estimated he was losing 5–6 hours a week to administrative overhead that shouldn't exist. WorkCentral is the tool he wished existed — one connected platform where a quote becomes a project, tracked time becomes an invoice, and clients pay through a link.
The Problem We're Solving
After years of running client work through a maze of disconnected tools - spending hours on quotes, recreating project tasks manually, and losing money to excessive payment processing fees - we knew there had to be a better way.
The existing solutions fell into two camps: expensive enterprise tools with features you'll never use, or basic freelancer tools that break down the moment your business grows beyond solo work.
